The California Students First Alliance (CSFA) is a coalition of college and university students, campus leaders, and staff, with the goal of protecting the Cal Grant program for deserving students. College affordability is a shared partnership between institutions, students and their families, and the state. For more than 28,000 Cal Grant Students attending independent, nonprofit colleges and universities, the Cal Grant award is a vital component in making college affordable.
Over the last 20 years, the state has failed to invest in these deserving students, instead the students have been subjected to repeated cuts. This award, which was $9,708 in 2001, has remained stagnant at $9,084 for many years. Now, the state is once again proposing to disinvest from these deserving students, who in the face of drastic economic uncertainty need this support more than ever.
